Review of the short film Nursery Rhyme
The film nursery Rhyme start in a strange and confusing way. A shirtless man standing by the roadside calmly singing old MacDonald had a farm. At first is seems very confusing but as the camera begins to move we get a clear understanding of what is actually happening. It becomes serious and very emotional but surprises the viewers and leaves a strong and powerful message, there is the urge to know what is going on because of the man's weird and strange behavior and as it continues the true meaning is revealed.
It shows us not to judge quickly because we might not understand the full situation.
The main character is played very well by the actor. He doesn’t say much, but his face and actions show a lot of emotion. He looks frightened, caring, and calm at once. The the connection between him and the child we hear is very touching. The film is filmed in one long shot, with the camera moving slowly . It builds suspense and helps the viewers feel like they are uncovering the story step by step. The lighting and colors are soft and natural, which makes the scene feel real and ambiguous. There is no background music except the man singing the nursery rhyme(which is very strange) but by the end, the song feels emotional. It becomes a way to calm someone in pain. The crying, singing, and quiet moments all work together to create a strong feeling.
In the end the film is short but very powerful even without dialogue. It is a clear example of "show, don't tell". It hit hard with how camera work changes the how we see the story. It short but powerful and leaves a lasting impression.
